An Executive Director of community cleanup in Canada shared his experience encouraging people to participate in community beautification projects.

In fact, Tom Ethans of Take Pride Winnipeg attended the Project Front Yard Summit at Vermilionville Monday.  “The key is getting young people to see they can go out and do something small to make a big difference.  Once you get them going they’ll tell their parents.  It’s amazing how it builds upon itself,” explained Ethans.

Project Front Yard leaders also talked about preparing to start a litter hotline.  Many residents were given the chance to speak. “We got a lot of apartments that have people who want to recycle but don’t have a good opportunity to do it.  We should enhance that opportunity,” explained resident Harold Shoeffler.

LCG President Joey Durel explained that a litter free city is the responsibly of the entire community and not one person.  “As someone pointed out, we need to start understanding that it’s not okay to litter because inmates will pick it up. This is a responsibility of everybody,” adds Durel.
