Over 100 parents, alumni and former teachers continue to protest in front of Sacred Heart School in Ville Platte.
All of them say they want Principal Diane Fontenot gone.
Parent, Jeffery Sylvester, says Tuesday marked their seventh day protesting administration. “We had a meeting with the Bishop. We know that the Bishop is supposed to be meeting with the Pastor, Father Jason, hopefully today. We were told today that they would get some type of resolution to our problem.”
Another Parent, David Vidrine, has long-standing ties with Sacred Heart. Not only is he a 1984 graduate, but Vidrine’s father is the school’s former principal. His son now attends the school. Vidrine says he met with Bishop Michael Jarrell late last week about the ongoing issues at the school. “When I called I was kind of begging and pleading. He granted to meet with me and we sat down. Me and Mr. Charles Buller. We had a very informative conversation.”
Vidrine said he was flooded with calls and letters from upset parents of many who wanted him to pass their concerns on to the Bishop. After his meeting with Bishop Jarrell, he says he’s hopeful for change. “We had a great meeting with the Bishop. He was very receptive, very attentive.”
Both parents claim Fontenot is the reason 83 staff members have come and gone over the past five and half years. Sylvester says the school’s latest loss happened Monday. “She fired our janitor that’s been there. He’s about 70 years old. She fired him because he wouldn’t get on a ladder to change a light bulb with nobody holding the ladder and she terminated him for that.”
Sylvester says he has a permit to protest in front of the school until the end of May. He also says if nothing is done by then, he will plan a march on Main Street.
