LAFAYETTE, La (KLFY) – The Knowledge Effect is partnering with the Lafayette Consolidated Government and Downtown Lafayette to bring the public together to discuss effective ways to enhance the Hub City’s entertainment districts.

“This all came about because of the conditional use permit informational sessions and public input sessions that came about from the Lafayette Consolidated Government Planning and Zoning Committee,” said Doug MacDiarmid.

Becoming a sociable city is the focus of Tuesday’s town hall meeting being hosted by The Knowledge Effect.

“An organization which is geared towards raising awareness about substance abuse and prevention in the community,” said MacDiarmid.

Coalition member, Doug MacDiarmid, says they will bring in an expert to discuss the best practices utilized in other cities to development entertainment districts.

“It’s not that we’re trying to not have anymore bars or entertainment offerings that serve alcohol at their establishments, we just wanted to make sure that there was a responsible way of going about it,” said MacDiarmid.

With the uncertainty of whether or not the conditional use permits will even get the green light, many bar owners say they would just like to see a more vibrant downtown district.

“One that’s more reflective of Lafayette and our culture,” said Berry Kemp.

Kemp, owner of Artmosphere, believes it’s just time for something different.

“I think that everybody would benefit if we made some changes,” said Kemp.

“Hopefully we can get the ball rolling with this, move in a positive direction, and really see some change and get things going,” said MacDiarmid.

The public is invited to attend the meeting Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Warehouse 535.
