The Lafayette Transit System will not be running on Thanksgiving Day. Now, many riders who rely on public transport are speaking out saying this will affect their holiday plans.

While closing down public transport on holidays is something that happens annually, some riders say this is the first they’re hearing of it.

LCG explains public transportation is shut down on holidays to allow workers the day off, but some city riders say it prevents them from doing that same thing; they say finding rides on a holiday is especially difficult and using ride-share apps is out of their budget.

Now some say they’re having to re-think their thanksgiving plans.

“I’m very disappointed. Very disappointed because I actually wanted to go see some of my friends and family but I can’t do that if the buses aren’t going to be running,” says Shawn Robicheaux, who depends on public transit to get around.

While Black Friday is also recognized as a holiday across the United States, public transit will be running that day in Lafayette; however, buses will run on a Saturday schedule.

Other holidays during which LCG shuts down public transit include: Christmas, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and 4th of July.
