The Dreams Come True Organization of Louisiana and the U-L Lafayette womens basketball team partnered together Sunday to host their Fifth Annual Christmas Party. News Tens Emily Giangreco attended the event.

For some families, holidays are spent at a hospital so this year the Ragin Cajuns Women’s Basketball team decided to make it one they would always remember.

“There’s a point where you, some people dont know what tomorrow’s gonna bring so it’s really amazing to be able to attend these events.”

The air was filled with Christmas spirit, as Dreams Come True of Louisiana teamed up with the Ragin Cajuns Women’s Basketball team to host their 5th annual Christmas Party.

“Everybody thinks it’s all about winning games but you know, you win day by day by doing things in the community and this is a great opportunity to see what’s going on in other peoples lives,  cause we always seem to be just focused on our own but just to see other aspects of life and learn from it.”

The kids were able to play, get their faces painted, meet their favorite disney princesses and even receive an early Christmas gift from Santa himself.

“I look forward to this cause I love these kids like they’d be my own grand kids. People don’t know really what these kids go through daily.

And then you come on a day like this and see them run, jump, eat what they want to eat, they’re not quarantined and to see them I know they just appreciate this.”

Robyn Stires has had a tough battle with cancer.  She says events like this remind her that she and her children are not alone in the fight.

These events mean everything to us because it lets you see that you’re not the only one who has gone through this. Just to get the kids together, even if it’s not for Christmas, it’s just a wonderful thing for Jake, my son, to see everybody.

That he’s not the only one and I think that dreams come true is amazing for doing that. It’s just breathtaking. It’s amazing to be able to attend these events with the kids and see what amount of work goes into these things for the kids, it’s amazing.
