UPDATE:

The Rayne Police Department has identified 24-year-old Blake Jones of Rayne as the victim in a Saturday afternoon shooting. Jones was pronounced dead at Lafayette General Hospital at 8:24 Sunday morning as a result of the single gunshot wound.

RAYNE, La. (KLFY) Police in Rayne are investigating a shooting on Marie Avenue near West A School Street.

They say it happened just before 2 p.m in the 500 block of North Marie Avenue.

A 24-year-old victim was shot in the head and transported to an area hospital on life support and is in critical condition, police said.

20-year-old Desmond Dugas has been arrested and charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Attempted Second Degree Murder.

Police say the victim’s name is being held until family members can be notified.
