RAYNE, La. (KLFY)—A local convenience store clerk and Rayne Resident were charged in cases involving the illegal sale of alcohol.

The Rayne Chief of Police said officers acted on a tip that a Rayne convenience store was illegally selling alcohol to persons under the age of 21.

According to a news release, officers conducted a compliance check.

Police arrested Waif S. Salem, 29, of Rayne with the illegal sale of alcohol to a person under the age of 21. A spokesperson with the department said the sale included a half pint of whisky and a 20-pack of bottled beer.

Officers also charged Nicholas Hans Roy, 20, of Rayne with underage possession of alcohol.

Chief Stelly urges all licensed alcohol sales outlets to go over the laws concerning the sale of alcohol to persons under 21 with employees and review procedure for checking identification before making a sale.
