ST. MARY PARISH, La. (KLFY)- A Baldwin man was convicted today on one count of vehicular homicide for causing an Aug. 2017 crash that killed 29-year-old Erin Demarco, of Franklin.
Authorities said Harold Melancon’s blood-alcohol level was .130 at the time of the crash.
State troopers said Melancon, 63, stopped his GMC pickup at the stop sign on Katy Bridge Road, preparing to turn left onto LA 182.
Demarco was riding a motorcycle westbound on LA 182, approaching Katy Bridge Road when Melancon turned directly into the path of Demarco causing the deadly crash.
Melancon’s sentencing date is Dec.10. He faces up to 30 years in prison.
