Lafayette, La. (KLFY) – Law enforcement and residents came together for National Night Out in Lafayette, all with the focus to unite and stop crime.

Lafayette’s Night Out event took place at the Martin Luther King Center with food, music, and dancing.

Representatives from Lafayette Police Department, Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department all took part in the event.

Some residents said events like this are necessary for the community because of the amount of crime in Lafayette.

“My mom lives in an area where the crime is really high. My grandkids used to live in an area where crime is really high so it concerns me because it doesn’t matter where you live now. It can hit anybody,” Denise Jolivette said, Lafayette resident.

Lafayette Police Corporal Bridgett Dugas said crime is getting better and they are taking it one day at a time.

“We’re all one in the community. Police, people in the neighborhood. We all have to work together to make Lafayette better and that’s what I want everyone to focus on after tonight,” Dugas said.
