Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans is raising the reward to $10,000 for information in the murder of a Housing Authority Police Officer.

Somebody shot and killed Officer James Bennett, Jr., May 21 while he worked an overnight detail at the Guste Housing Development in Central City.

NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison said the department has received some tips in the case and all leads are being actively investigated.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Michael Anderson called the information gathered so far “promising.”

Detective Nick Gernon, commander of the homicide division, said evidence collected at the murder scene is now being “processed.” He would not specify the nature of that evidence.

HANO Police Chief Robert Anderson urged people with information about the murder to please come forward. “Our department is still hurting,” he said. “I doubt we will ever get over the death of Officer Bennett, but we are a stronger HANO because of it.
