LCG Councilwoman Liz Hebert has been behind the wheel driving local agencies and businesses to help build more covered shelters at bus stops.

Bobbie Marsh rides public transportation on a regular basis. “At least give us something to sit down at. Like I say this corner and that corner; there aren’t no seats no where.  You can see the bus stop there and no seats there neither,” Marsh said.

Hebert says riders at unsheltered bus stops are left vulnerable to humid and stormy weather conditions. “Like someone like myself; I can’t stand that long. My ankles are bad. Ican’t deal with it, Marsh added.

LPSS board member Justin Centanni says the school system signed a cooperative agreement to cover the bus stop directly outside Lafayette High. “We have students who ride the bus everyday.  This is just going to make it a little more comfortable and convenient for them to take advantage of our transportation system,” Centanni noted.

Centanni says the board approved the sheltered stop back in November.  Centanni explains tht Tuesday’s introductory ordinance is LCG’s next step in the agreement.

Hebert says monetary donations to the bus stop shelter effort are being handled by Community Foundation of Acadiana.
