Yvette “Trixie” Ford had a smile for every day and every situation. That’s the number one way friends, family, co-workers and fellow biker sisters describe Ford. The 51-year old mother of three and grand-mother died tragically Monday, March 30th, in a car crash on Surrey Street.
Farrah Batiste said her friend was “always laughing and was a ‘people’ person.” It was never a dull moment according to Batiste, who rode side by side with Ford in the Infinity Sisters Motorcycle Club. The news of Ford’s death hit Batiste late Tuesday afternoon.
“I was just shocked. Shocked that someone we loved, knew, rode with, just gone so fast.”
The traveling RN spent the day caring for patients around Acadiana at hospitals such as Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette. Co-worker Lela Sion said Ford was a dedicated, loving and caring nurse.
“My heart goes out. We were so devastated. It was a sad moment at work today.”
“Trixie” spent the nights and off days, riding with the Infinity Sisters, hosting fundraisers for the community.
“All the girls would get together, give donations, school supplies, booksacks and just bring that to the Heyman Center.,” Batiste said.
Ford never met a stranger. Everyone was an automatic friend, and the avid Saints made sure everyone around her loved the team she traveled frequently to watch.
“She had us all into football, and I was one of the ones that did not like football. But, I picked up the sport because of Miss Yvette,” said Sion.
The spirited Ford, a soul that once watched over the patients in her care, will now watch over the people who cared for her.
“That was my girl always will be. One day we’ll meet again. Gotta take the bitter with the sweet, you can’t question it,” Batiste said.
Ford’s funeral arrangements are still pending. A vigil will be held Monday, April 6th at Heymann Park in Lafayette at 5 pm.
