LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)—In support of law enforcement, Rouses all over the gulf coast invited officers for lunch during these times of tension.

Rhett Young, the Assistant Grocery Director tells KLFY the store wanted to show appreciation for police.

“In light of the recent shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge, Donny Rouses and the Rouses’ family wanted to show their appreciation for the job that our men and women in blue do every day for us and our community.”

All 44 Rouses locations invited all law enforcement this Friday to enjoy lunch on them.

At the Rouses on Congress in Lafayette, tables were joined together with balloons awaiting the arrival of the men and women in blue.

While at the event we caught up with Sheriff Mark Garber with the Lafayette Sheriff’s Office who told us although we are living in a time with unprecedented violence against police, they are also experiencing an unprecedented support from the public.

“It’s so gratifying to the men and women who serve and protect to know that the public is supporting us to this extent.”

Garber said, recent violence against officers isn’t going to stop his department from doing their jobs.

“The violence against police officers is not going to stop us from doing our job. We’re going to do our job with the same level of professionalism and the same level of dedication.”

Garber wasn’t the only one appreciative of the support of the community, Clint Campbell tells us the department appreciates everything the community is doing.

“We appreciate everything that people have been doing for us and we hope that they realize that we’re trying to make things better for them.”
