SCOTT, La. (KLFY) – Officials said they found a body in a burning vehicle around 3 a.m. this morning in Scott.

Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier was the first to respond to the vehicle fire near the 400 block of Old Spanish Trail.

“We immediately called for the Scott Police Department, Sheriff’s Office and Arson. We extinguished the fire and they conducted their investigation,” said Sonnier.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office said they are treating the investigation as a homicide.

“Because it is an ongoing investigation, some of the information we’re going to hold on to until we have a better handle of what we’re working with,” said Captain John Babin, with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Babin said they have no leads on a victim or a suspect at this time, but are looking at dental records to determine the victim’s identity.

“Seeing a body inside of the vehicle, obviously evidence was a top priority so we made a conscious effort to preserve the evidence for the law enforcement,” said Sonnier.

Anyone with any information on the investigation is asked to call the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.
