Scott Fire officials say the owner of a car was doing some mechanical work Saturday when the vehicle then became engulfed in flames.

It happened just after 6 p.m. in the 300 block of Lebesque Road.

Chief Chad Sonnier said firefighters were initially responding to a house fire, however on arrival, observed a vehicle with heavy fire emitting from the engine compartment that was threatening neighboring manufactured homes.

Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control, with minimal damage to the exterior of the owner of the vehicle’s home and a neighboring home, Sonnier said.

An investigation into the incident revealed the fire to be accidental in nature, Sonnier said.

The owner of the vehicle was performing mechanical work on the vehicle when the fire began, he said.

No injuries were reported.
