U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke toured Acadiana Park in Lafayette Tueday.
Zinke announced that about $100,000 will be coming to the area.
Secretary Zinke says the $100,000 will go to Lafayette Parks and Recreation to focus on developing Acadiana Park as a resource.
“Recreation is a $887 billion dollar industry and America deserves to go out and recreate and enjoy,” Zinke says.
The funds are derived from lease revenues and are part of the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
“How do we make the recreation experience better in this country and that’s to make sure we look at how trail systems connect; how bike systems connect,” Zinke adds.
The Director of Parks and Recreation says the money will be used to build a bridge through the park.
Zinke says recreation expands the whole pallet of the outdoors experience. “What happens up stream affects down stream and all the way down; that connects one side of the area to the next,” Zinke explains.
