A sentencing date has been set for Seth Fontenot, the Lafayette man convicted in March of manslaughter in the death of 15-year-old Austin Rivault in 2013.
The Daily Advertiser reports that Fontenot will be sentenced on July 8.
J.N. Prather Jr., assistant district attorney, says Judge Edward Rubin, who heard the case, is expected to set Fontenot’s sentence.
Fontenot was charged with one count of first-degree murder for Rivault’s death and with two counts of attempted first-degree murder for injuring two other teens.
A jury in March found Fontenot guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter and two counts of aggravated battery.
He still could face up to 40 years in prison, but avoided life in prison that comes with a first-degree murder conviction.
