LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – As Walmart North prepares to close their doors for good, a 50% discount was offered for just about everything in stock.

Before the doors opened at 7 Friday morning, people lined up at both entrances hoping to get their hands on some half price merchandise.

One woman came from as far as Vermilion Parish for a deal.

“It’s 50% off! I think everybody in their right mind would want 50% off instead of paying full price”, said Tasha Badon from Erath.

Others just happened to be in the area.

Sebie Dayon of Opelousas said, “I’ll stop at Walmart and see what they’re doing now. I’m glad I did!”

The lines at each entrance stretched from doors all the way down to the sides of the building.

The wait caused frustration for some potential shoppers.

“If they knew that they were going to have this big sale, they should’ve been a little more organized”, Alex Johnson said.

Some people left with more than hey could carry in two hands, the influx of shoppers also led to a shortage of shopping carts.

“There was no baskets left so he’s helping me”, Badon said.

And while we couldn’t get our cameras inside, shoppers say we didn’t miss much.

Damarious Pierre came to pick up large items his fiance’ bought. “Honestly, it’s a lot of people just standing in line trying to pay for their purchases”.

“I guess you could say the cupboard is bare, or shall I say baring”, Dayon said.

Walmart North will close its doors on March 29th, there are five other locations with eight miles.

Of the nearly 300 people employed at the Evangeline Thruway location, officials say they will be given the opportunity to transfer to nearby stores.
