EUNICE, La. (KLFY) – The family of a Eunice man is speaking out after he was shot and killed after a party Saturday night.
In the hours following De’lanzo Veal’s death, his uncle spoke with News Ten saying his nephew was killed in cold blood.
Not long after, there were stories being shared about Veal’s personal life, and now his sister wants to set the record straight.
Veal was gunned down early Sunday morning leaving many wondering why.
His sister, Patrice Anderson, says Veal would have given the shirt off of his back to anyone in need.
“There wasn’t nothing in the world De’lanzo wouldn’t do for a person. Everybody know De’lanzo and nobody has nothing bad to say because he was a good person all the way around.”
Anderson says her brother attended a trail ride about 15 years ago which led him to create a trail ride group, the 51/50 Riders.
Since Veal’s death, rumors began to surface of the trail ride group being a cover for criminal activity.
One Eunice resident told us, “They’re not nice to play with. If you get in their way you’re not going to be a very happy person when they finish with you.”
Eunice Police Chief, Randy Fontenot says during his tenure, Veal had a drug charge on his record from 2015, but he has never heard of the 51/50 Riders being involved in drugs or gangs.
“As far as we know it’s just a regular trail ride group. We’ve never had any complaints of any gang relations or drug activity with that group” the chief said.
Other than noise complaints from residents about the loud music created by the trail ride late at night, Eunice police have no reason to connect them to rumored gang activity.
