NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY)- The Iberia Parish School Board is interviewing candidates for superintendent this week. Six people are in the running for the position and interviews end tonight.

“Everybody needs to take ‘Dale Henderson 101’ course because he’s awesome. He’s really made my job as a school board member real easy,” says Dale Dugas, Iberia Parish School Board President.

Dale Henderson announced his retirement in January after 11 years as superintendent. The 14 member school board has interviewed each candidate for the job.

“The hardest part we are going to have is to choose who the best candidate is because we have six real solid candidates. We are excited,” says Dugas.

The board will announce the superintendent-elect on March 7th.

Dugas says, “We have 13,000 kids we teach in this parish so that’s the biggest part of that job is to make sure we are giving these kids as great of an education as we can.”

The new superintendent will receive a contract. Louisiana state law limits that contract to a two-years.

According to the Daily Advertiser, Dale Henderson made $159,824 a year. The superintendent elects salary will be negotiated once a nominee is picked.

“We are going to have a hard task just to hopefully pick out the best one out of the six,” says Dugas.
