FRANKLIN, La.- On April 27 at 7:49 PM the Franklin Fire Department responded for a reported structure fire in the 1000 block of Eagle St. The first units arrived on scene within three minutes and found heavy smoke and fire visible from a rear bedroom. Additional assistance was called from Centerville, Baldwin, and Chitimacha FD’s. A total of 5 units with 20 firefighters responded to the scene. Acadian Ambulance stood-by.

The fire started in a bedroom due to an untended candle left burning; the residents were alerted to the fire by a working smoke detector. Burning candles should never be left untended. Due to the quick actions of the homeowner by shutting the bedroom door while evacuating the home, fire damage was contained to the bedroom. The rest of the home sustained minimal smoke and water damage.

No injuries reported.
