The Grand Opera House of the South is participating in South Louisiana Giving Day for a specific reason and with a specific goal in mind.

Executive Director Kim Gielen Gattle says the organization is hoping to raise $46,000 to install a third row of lights for stage performances.
When the opera house was renovated in early 2000s, this particular feature was not part of the plan. Since then, they have managed to attract large musical groups such as the Air Force Band who require the additional lighting. The performers must bring in or rent lighting for the performances.

Often times, these sorts of events are offered at no charge to the public.

The Grand Opera House of the South in historic downtown Crowley was originally completed in 1901 and remains one of a small group of second story opera houses in the world. When it was restored, as many of the original features as possible were retained or replicated. The opera house seats approximately 300 people.
