Several projects are underway at St. Edmunds Catholic school in Eunice. Students, teachers, and volunteers are re-painting the elementary school from the courtyard to the classrooms and, more
Several elementary students at St. Edmunds Catholic School are working on a big project. “We are redoing the classrooms in the elementary school, the doors and the roof.” said one student.
The school was established in 1949. It’s now receiving its first facelift. “I actually came to elementary school here and I don’t think it’s been painted since I’ve been here,” said Michele Richard, parent, and president of school organization.
Jamie Manuel is also a parent and over this painting and restoration project that began in 2018. “Last summer, with just parent volunteers, we were able to come in here and paint the classrooms, the bathrooms…,” Manuel described.
The two believe the school is the foundation for many lives in this rural town. That is why it is important for them to fix it up.
“It’s pretty good seeing everyone try to contribute to everything all together,” said an elementary student describing all of the support the school is receiving from students and parents.
“We need to keep our school alive,” said another student.
Phase one of the project is complete. Phase two begins this summer but in need of more volunteers. The project includes; general maintenance of the buildings, technology, and SES foundation.
“You’ll see kids occasionally pulling weeds, or pressure washing the school, and I just feel like it’s important to them,” said Richard.
“I hope for one day that my kids will come over here and it’ll be a better school when they’re here than when I was here,” said a highschooler.
The school is raising funds to meet a matching grant of $10,000. Additional ways to give to st. edmunds is through its library fund, technology fund, and building fund.
