Two shootings in less than 48 hours in St. Landry Parish sent one man to the hospital.
The shootings happened in Opelousas and Eunice and authorities are looking into a connection between the two incidents.
Sergeant Crystal Leblanc with the Opelousas Police Department says the first shooting happened near the corner of Market and Jefferson Streets in Opelousas on Tuesday night. “Nobody was injured. The suspect actually shot at the victim’s vehicle.”
She says the intended victim was in the car when shots were fired and says Deontrey Moten is a suspect in the shooting.
Rose Brown who lives nearby, says it is frightening to know this happened in a school zone. “Kids could have been there for practice or something and you shooting at each other. It’s just scary that people just don’t care anymore.”
Eunice Police Chief, Randy Fontenot, says Moten is also believed to be involved in a Wednesday morning shooting in Eunice that sent one man to the hospital. “It just carried on into Eunice. We believe that the two incidents are connected.”
Chief Fontenot says the victim was shot three times at his home on Jelk Street and says at least 12 bullets were fired into the house.
Fontenot says a woman and two children were also inside, but not harmed. “The scary part about it is sometimes the actions of some people can lead to the endangerment of others.”
Fontenot says the shootings are believed to be drug related and both departments are expecting more arrests.
Both shootings are still under investigation and says the victim is in stable condition and has requested to speak to investigators.
