Potential flooding from the opening of the Morganza Spillway have triggered restrictions designed to protect levee stability by prohibiting driving, riding, or hauling on top of public levees.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office says these rules will be strictly enforced and violators will be cited.

Only residents traveling to and from their residences will be allowed access, the sheriff’s office said.

Unnecessary travel on the top of the levees has the potential to damage the levee road, officials said.
