ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY)–  Some areas in St. Martin Parish have already seen six inches of rainfall and more rain is expected over the weekend.

Edward Leblanc has been living in the same house for almost 20-years, he said the rain water made its way past his driveway and their home before.

“We’re always on pins and needles whenever it gets like this because we’re always expecting water to get into the house.” Leblanc said, “A few years ago we had water about three brick layers high come inside the house.”

Edwards said the best he and his family can do is “Chock up” the furniture and keep the water from damaging it and wait out the storm.

Neighbors said the draining is a big issue on the roads when heavy rainfall.

Sandbags for St. Martin Parish residents are available off of Ruthbridge Highway.

Approximately 500 sandbags were already given out and the Parish government expects to give out a total of 1,500 bags by Saturday morning.
