St. Martinville  City Councilmen say the  Police Cheif has located the $18,000 that was thought to be misplaced two weeks ago.

At Monday’s  meeting, no one seemed to have the answers as to where traffic ticket funds and DARE grant money may have been.

Some council members voiced their concerns over the Chief Administrative Officer and his experience.

“We had our own auditor, handpicked by the mayor stand right there and say the gentleman you’re hiring to do your finances is not qualified. So where are we however many months down the road. We got money missing and we don’t know what bank accounts are where,” Councilman Mike Fuslier said.

Shedrick Berard, the city’s Chief Administrative Officer, said the last time his payroll clerk saw the money bag was February 20.

“I looked where she said she put it and we couldn’t find it. That’s all the information I have,” Berard said.

On Tuesday, the Police Chief found the money in a newly opened account.

It was deposited four days later on  Feb. 24th.

“$18,000 is missing and nobody knows about it. The administration should have known about it.” Councilman Craig Prosper said.

The city also recently had issues with payroll.

Employees from Breaux Bridge and Abbeville have tried to help St. Martinville with their finances.

At the end of the nights meeting, the CAO asked the council to bring in more training for him and his staff, which the council approved.
