BERWICK, La. (KLFY)- Berwick officers arrested St. Mary Parish Councilman James Bennett today.
He has been charged with remaining where forbidden, according to the Berwick Police Department.
When contacted and asked about the arrest by News 10, Bennett he said he “had no comment.”
Members of the St. Mary Parish Council were not aware of Bennett’s arrest this afternoon.
“I haven’t talked to James since last Wednesday’s meeting,” said St. Mary Parish Council Chairman Kevin Voison.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard told the The Morgan City Daily Review that Bennett was allegedly on property without permission.
“A resident said he was back in a residence where he had been told not to be,” Richard told the St. Mary Parish newspaper.
Remaining where forbidden is a considered a misdemeanor charge that is no more than a $500 fine and/or a up six months of jail.
Bennett has already been released on bond.
