St. Mary Parish Detectives are investigating the death of an inmate at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville.

Authorites say on Saturday 52 year old Sterling Scully reported he was ill and was brought to medical where he was seen by medical staff.

A short while later, they say Scully became unresponsive, resuscitative efforts were implemented and were unsuccessful.

Acadian Ambulance was summoned and Scully was pronounced dead on scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s office.

He had been incarcerated since December of 2015 and was serving time on charges of illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and for violation of felony probation, according to authorities.

The investigation has been turned over to the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office.
