(St. Mary Parish Police Dept.)-On Sunday, March 24, 2019, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office personnel observed damage to the fence at the Sheriff’s Office motor pool. Upon further investigation, it was learned that a fence had been cut and a burglary had taken place. Deputies observed a cargo trailer filled with tools that was previously recovered from a different burglary to be missing. 

The cargo trailer was recovered in a nearby field, but the tools inside of the trailer had been stolen. As the investigation progressed, the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Investigations, received information in regards to the location of the stolen property. Suspects were immediately developed.

In collaboration with the IPSO-BOI, a search warrant was conducted at a residence on Prairie Ave. in New Iberia, La. A suspect, identified as David Moresi, 40, fled on foot from detectives. Moresi was captured after a short foot pursuit. Located in the home were the stolen tools from the cargo trailer. A second location was developed and a search was conducted where more stolen property was recovered. 

This same suspect, David Moresi, is also a suspect in the theft of numerous ATVs between St. Mary and Iberia Parishes.

On Thursday, March 28, 2019, the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office BOI received further information regarding the location of a stolen four-wheeler. IPSO detectives recovered a four-wheeler reported stolen last year from the Sorrel, La. area. 

David Moresi, 40, was charged with three failure to appear warrants and felony Illegal possession of stolen property.

Dustin Frederick, 35, was charged with felony Illegal possession of stolen property by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
