Master Trooper Brooks David identified the crash victim as 27-year-old Nathan Hesse of Iowa, La.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. when the driver of the car, 24-year-old Brook Trahan, of Chauvin, ran off the eastbound roadway and hit an embankment, causing the 2016 Mazda MZ 6 to overturned.

Hesse, the front seat passenger, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office.

This is the seventh fatal crash investigated by Troop I, which includes most of Acadiana, in 2017.
