IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY)- A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a school bus in Iberia Parish Friday afternoon at the intersection of La. 182 and Coteau Road.

Shane LaCour, 45, of St. Martinville, was killed after his 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle struck the right rear side of the school bus, according to Louisiana State Police.

LaCour was traveling east on La. 182 while the school bus was turning left onto La. 88 from La. 182. Once the school bus made the turn onto La. 88, it stopped before proceeding to cross the railroad tracks, as required by state law. The rear end of the bus had not finished clearing the intersection, causing the motorcycle to strike it.

State Police Troop I spokesman Thomas Gossen said there were children on the bus at the time of the crash. No one on the bus was injured, he said. Despite wearing a DOT approved helmet, LaCour suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bus driver tested negative for alcohol in her system. A toxicology sample was obtained from LaCour for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
