If you are planning to travel on I-10 West between Baton Rouge and Lafayette you should prepare for major delays.

Road construction will reduce travel to one lane beginning at mile marker 139 in Grosse Tete, according to State Police.

The lane closure will start tonight at 8 p.m. and will remain in effect until 6 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2015.

Drivers traveling from Baton Rouge are encouraged to use U.S. Highway 190 as an alternate route.

Authorities want to remind drivers that when you are traveling through a construction zone: “always follow posted speed limits especially when workers are present. Additionally, make sure to leave adequate braking room between vehicles, traffic barriers, construction equipment, and workers.  Through remaining vigilant and avoiding all distractions while behind the wheel, drivers can do their part to ensure the safety of everyone while on Louisiana roadways,” according to a release issued today from Louisiana State Police.
