A store clerk is now in critical condition after being shot during an armed robbery, according to the Lafayette Police Department.

The incident happened around 8:35 p.m. Thursday night at a convenience store in the 900 block of Carmel Drive.

Investigators say a man walked into the store with a handgun and shot the clerk three times.

He then stole an undisclosed amount of cash and ran away. The store clerk was taken to a local hospital where they remain in critical condition, according to Cpl. Paul Mouton.
