LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- Two people were arrested Monday for starting a shed fire in Lafayette.
At 2:34 p.m. Monday, Lafayette firefighters responded to 800 East Vermilion Street to a reported structure fire. When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was coming from a shed behind the vacant dwelling. Firefighters extinguished the fire within 10 minutes. The shed sustained heavy fire damage.
Fire officials determined the building was a vacant structure with no utilities. The cause of the fire was determined to be arson.
Fire investigators arrested two suspects for allegedly starting the fire in the vacant structure. The suspects, 19-year-old Otis Key, of Houma, and 18-year-old Katherine Cass, of Lafayette were charged with Negligent Arson. Both suspects were booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
