A third suspect was arrested Thursday evening.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are assisting the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office trying to find a number of suspects, involved in an altercation that occurred in Jeanerette where shots were fired.
Two suspects are currently in custody.
“Local officials here in St. Mary parish received a BOLO from the Jeanerette Police department in reference to an altercation that had occurred in Jeanerette. Shots were fired during that altercation,” explains St. Mary Parish Sheriff Scott Anslum.
That’s when the Franklin Police Department located the suspect’s vehicle, and when they tried to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle sped ahead.
“They initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle did not stop or respond to those emergency lights,” says Anslum.
The suspects fled all the way down to LA 317 Burns Point, where their speeds reaching over 100 miles per hour causing the car to wreck, and the suspects to flee on foot.
“They were on foot in the area, it’s a very rural area, lot of swamp area, it’s just bayous and marsh area. so we’re actively pursuing them in those areas,” Anslum says.
Numerous agencies have sealed the perimeter including State Police, Morgan City Police and more.
Due to the complaint from Jeanerette, we’re considering them armed and dangerous and that’s how we’re conducting our search efforts,” the sheriff says.
The Morgan City Police Department is also investigating the vehicle for an unauthorized incident.
Sheriff Anslum is saying that the marsh area is so thick, so now going into the night, it could make it a little more difficult for authorities to spot them.
