T.M. Landry Board releases report on investigation into academic practices

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- T.M. Landry College Prep’s board has released findings from an investigation conducted by a third-party firm.

Paul Pastorek, of Pastorek Partners LLC, presented his investigation, which solely focused on the school’s academic practice. It did not include an evaluation of the school’s finances nor a look into the abuse allegations.

Pastorek said, “We have reached out to the State Police to find out what the status of any investigations are and we have been foreclosed to learning what they are. We have not been told what they are.”

He added it was difficult to analyze the reports of physical abuse because of a lack of participation from many individuals, including those interviewed for the New York Times article.

As for their findings in regards to the academics in the school, Pastorek’s report contradicts The New York Times’ investigation published in November, 2019.

“There is substantial evidence that there was real teaching and learning going on in the school. Likewise there was substantial evidence that teachers and leaders appear to be passionate toward the students and effective in the work that they do,” said Pastorek during Friday’s press conference.

Additionally, the firm said in the reports:

“There do not appear to be intentional or systemic efforts to provide false information to colleges; however the School should have better record keeping in order to demonstrate that they have property dotted the ‘i’s’ and crossed the ‘t’s’.”
