LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) Local philanthropist James “Jim” Moncus has died, his family announced.

He was 81.

Moncus died at his home in Lafayette, according to an obituary.

“We are deeply saddened to share that Moncus Park’s biggest supporter, Mr. Jim Moncus, passed away at the age of 82 today. Mr. Moncus invested in the park’s success very early on, as he understood the impact the park would have on our community, now and for many generations to come. It was obvious that Mr. Jim understood the famous quote from author Nelson Henderson, perhaps better than most: “The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit, Moncus Park Executive Director Elizabeth Brooks said.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 19, at 1 p.m. in Martin & Castille’s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette.

“Mr. Jim Moncus will be missed by all who knew him, and our condolences go out to his wife, Mrs. Ruth, and to the rest of his family and friends. Moncus Park will forever honor his legacy and always be a beautiful space in which to remember him.”
