A former teacher at Archbishop Hannan High School was arrested Thursday, accused of giving pot brownies to two students.
Camille Brennan, 29, of New Orleans, surrendered to officials at the St. Tammany Parish jail and was booked on two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and two counts of distribution of marijuana.
A warrant had been issued for her arrest Wednesday, said Capt. George Bonnett, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
According to authorities, Brennan admitted that she gave the students the brownies that were laced with the drug on May 1.
In a letter to parents last month, Father Charles Latour, the Covington school’s principal, said he asked the Sheriff’s Office to investigate Brennan after one of the student’s parents contacted school officials.
Brennan resigned soon after.
“The care and safety of your sons and daughters is a priority I hold sacred,” Latour wrote. “We will continue to fully cooperate with the detectives from the Sheriff’s Office in this ongoing investigation.”
Bonnett said that additional charges could be forthcoming.
Brennan’s attorney, Tim Upton, released a statement Thursday afternoon that said he had not received any evidence that a crime was committed.
“At this time, my client has simply requested that we fully cooperate with our judicial system in every capacity,” Upton wrote.
