A Rayne teen is facing one count second degree murder for the shooting death of 17-year-old Jordan Matthews on Feb. 2, 2018.

Broderick Mier was 15 years old when Rayne Police when he was named in a negligent homicide investigation two days after Matthew’s body was found. 

Matthews was found shot in the head in the 500 block of Bull Street, police said. 

After detectives forwarded their investigation to the Acadia Parish District Attorney’s Office, prosecutors upgraded Mier’s charge to second degree murder. He will be tried as an adult, authorities said. 

Mier was indicted by an Acadia Parish grand juy on on March 21. He pleaded not guilty on April 20.

The next motion hearing in this case is scheduled for July 26, according to the Acadia Parish Clerk of Court.
