LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)— Lafayette Parish Schools offer free breakfast and lunch through September 30, officials stated.

In response to disastrous conditions caused by the recent flooding, the United States Department of Agriculture authorized the Louisiana Department of Education to allow certain flexibilities in school means programs, according to a news release.

Lafayette Parish was along the parishes affected being declared a Major Disaster area by FEMA.

According to the LPSS, as of Wednesday, August 24, students attending all Lafayette Parish schools are being offered breakfast and lunch meals at no charge. The district-wide meal benefit will be in effect until September 30.

Free or reduced price meal status, approved through the application process will not be utilized during this time. September 30, is also the expiration date for prior year free or reduced meal price meal status.

LPSS said student accounts will still be active for the purchase of extra items.
