Students of all ages go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Acadiana everyday after school. Two of Brileigh Edwards friends who already went to the club encouraged her to go. 

“It doesn’t look like the best place, it’s not the most expensive place but it’s still fun. It’s not about the place. It’s about the people in the place so it’s a lot of fun to come here,” says Edwards. 

Brileigh is in eighth grade. She’s was encouraged to by friends who go to the club every day after school, even after some classmates said it was for young students. 

 “A lot of people say it doesn’t look fun over there. Every time I pass it looks kind of sad, like no one is there. We are here we are just hiding away,” she says.

Brileigh likes being with her friends after school. They hang out after the homework power hour everyday. She says, “Each day we do homework. They might give us a treat to move us to do our homework more then we wouldn’t really want to.”

About 37 percent of the students that go to the boys are girls club are teens. And in 2017, 59 teens were employed across the five clubs.
