Scott, La. (Scott FVD, Chief Chad P. Sonnier)- On Thursday, April 11, 2019, at 5:19 p.m., Scott Fire Department was dispatched to a residential fire in the 7000 Block of Cameron Street.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke coming from the home, with heavy fire in the attic area.

Although a bulk of the fire was quickly brought under control, construction of the home’s roof hampered extinguishment efforts.

A metal roof was installed directly on top of a shingle and tar roof. The tar and shingle roof continued to burn in the voided area, which firefighters were unable to access.

After several hours of unsuccessful attempts to reach the fire, heavy equipment was brought to the scene to remove the tin, enabling firefighters to access the fire. Once exposed the fire was quickly extinguished.

Several agencies were requested as a result of the manpower needed to extinguish the fire.

While investigating the cause of the fire, the homeowner stated she was outside of the home and noticed smoke coming from the attic area. She then went inside the home to get her son out of the home. Both mom and son were able to safely escape.

An investigation into the exact cause and origin will begin in the morning.
