LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)— There was a big concert and party Nov. 11, in honor of our nation’s veterans at Parc International in downtown Lafayette.

The event featured country music superstar Trace Adkins.

Honor Fest was put on by 97.3 The Dawg. Gates opened a little before 5 p.m. and the party started at 6 p.m.

The National anthem was played and guest speakers took the stage including U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley and Lafayette Mayor-President Joel Robideaux.

Crew had spent the afternoon setting up, and musicians were doing sound checks.

Starting the show at 6:30 was Kip Sonnier and Tracy Adkins with three of his band members from his first band “Bayou” later taking the stage around 8:30 p.m.

Adkins is from North Louisiana and is no stranger to Acadiana. He said his band used to play all around Acadiana in the mid-80s.

“First band I was ever in actually there are three guys playing here tonight.” Said Trace Adkins, “They were in the first country band really that I was ever in, we started out here in Lafayette playing Cowboys and Cowgirls, played The Last Roundup out in Duson, played the Cajun Wharf in New Iberia we played the Beehive in Abbeville we played all around here.”

Trace said that the Acadiana area is like a second home to him.

Adkins was set to play a lot of his greatest hits, but also new songs from his new album coming out next year.
