BROUSSARD, La. (KLFY)– A traffic stop in Broussard resulted in three arrests when police discover over $1,599 worth of drugs.
According to Broussard’s Chief of Police, Brannon Decou on July 3, an officer while conducting a traffic stop in the 5600 block of US HWY 90, detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and noticed a suspicious package.
According to a news release, the officer questioned the driver who was identified as Gentry Dugas, 34, of Morgan City, about the odor and the package which resulted in Dugas grabbing the package and attempting to run away.
Police tell News 10, Dugas resisted the officer after he was caught but was eventually restrained.
Authorities say in the package was approximately 106.6 grams of marijuana which police say is worth $1,599 on the streets, a digital scale, and numerous plastic baggies that are consistently used for narcotics distribution.
Police they say a search of the vehicle and Dugas resulted in finding five Alprazolam tablets, two ounces of Promethazine and Codeine, and almost $1,300 which was seized.
All three who were in the vehicle were taken into custody and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
The driver, Gentry Dugas was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I Narcotics, Possession of Schedule II Narcotics, Possession of Schedule IV Narcotics, Monies Derived from Drug Sales, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting an Officer, Speeding, Following Too Close, and an outstanding warrants for Flight from an Officer, Following too Close and Expired Driver’s License.
Bryan Tardy, 27, of Franklin, LA was charged with Possession of Schedule II Narcotics, and booked on active warrant for Failure to appear for Possession of Marijuana
The third occupant, Nicholas Bourgeois, 26, of Lake Charles, LA, was charged with Possession of Schedule II Narcotics, and Possession of Schedule IV Narcotics.
