UPDATE: Interstate 10 in Scott has reopened to traffic after all lanes were blocked for hours when a tanker truck overturned.
The Scott Fire Department says hazmat personnel were able to safely transfer an estimated 41,560 pounds of propylene tetramer from the damaged tanker into another vessel for transport near mile marker 99.
According to Chief Chad Leger, the Department of Environmental Qualities assured proper cleanup of the spillage.
SCOTT, La. (KLFY)- 4 p.m. UPDATE: Interstate 10 remains closed at Ambassador Caffery Parkway (mile marker 99). Congestion has backed beyond the Crowley area. Motorists are being diverted onto La. 13 north (mile marker 80) to US 190 east.
UPDATE: On Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at 5:14 a.m., the Scott Fire Department was dispatched to a major vehicle accident with entrapment on Interstate 10, eastbound at Mile Marker 99.
Upon arrival, the driver was able to safely exit the vehicle without injury. The truck was transporting Propylene Tetramer, which is a flammable and pollutant.
HAZMANT crews were able to contain the spill, however, as a result of the flammability issues, I-10
eastbound will be shut down into the early evening hours until the product can be safely transferred to another tractor trailer, the Scott Fire Department said.
The transfer process is expected to take several hours, Fire Chief Chad Sonnier said.
No other injuries were sustained as a result of the accident. The cause of the incident is under
investigation.
I-10 eastbound between Scott exit 97 and Ambassador Caffery is closed due to a crash involving an 18-wheeler.
Officials say the truck was carrying hazardous materials. HAZMAT crews are on scene.
There are major traffic delays and intermittent road closures on I-10, could also possibly be at times westbound.
