(CNN) – Donald Trump tweeted Saturday that the fatal shooting of pro basketball star Dwyane Wade’s cousin will make African-Americans vote for him.
Nykea Aldridge, 32, a mother of four, was shot and killed while pushing her baby in a stroller in Chicago’s Parkway Gardens neighborhood.
Aldridge is Wade’s first cousin.
According to police, Aldridge was caught in the crossfire between two men and was not the intended target.
The Republican presidential candidate tweeted the shooting was “Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!”
Dwyane Wade’s cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!
Trump has been courting African-American voters telling them their lives “cannot get any worse” if he wins the presidency and asking “what do you have to lose” by voting for him.
Trump’s initial tweet misspelled Wade’s first name. It was deleted and an identical tweet with proper spelling was reposted.
About an hour and a half later, Trump tweeted his condolences to Wade’s family.
My condolences to Dwyane Wade and his family, on the loss of Nykea Aldridge. They are in my thoughts and prayers.
