BATON ROUGE, La. (KLFY) – President-elect Donald Trump visited Baton Rouge this afternoon for a get out the vote rally.

He was also there to thank his Louisiana supporters.

Trump was introduced by Republican U.S. Senate candidate John Kennedy.

Trump encouraged around 2,000 supporters inside the airplane hangar to vote for Kennedy and other republicans in Saturday’s runoff election.

Kennedy is facing off against Democrat Foster Campbell.

“We need John Kennedy in the Senate to help enact our agenda and we have to do it, our agenda on behalf of the people,” Trump said in his speech.

The president-elect reiterated some of his campaign promises to protect the second amendment, repeal and replace Obamacare, and secure the southern border with Mexico by building a wall.

“We will build a great wall and we will put an end to illegal immigration and stop the drugs from pouring into our country, also,” Trump said.

He also talked about creating jobs.  Trump says he wants to lower the business tax rate from 35 to 15-percent and invest 1 trillion dollars in America’s infrastructure.

“We’re going rebuild our country with American hands by American workers, okay.”

Hundreds of people stood out in the cold, some of them for hours for their change to see the President-elect speak here in Baton Rouge.

“I like his beliefs on immigration. I don’t believe that anybody should just be able to walk in here freely,” supporter Kyle Hopton said.

“He’s gonna change things, especially for our African-American communities so I’m excited to see what changes he will bring to this country,” Cynthia Warner said.

Sandy Hindelang of Lafayette came to the rally with two friends from Lafayette and one from Abbeville.

“Oh it’s just so exciting to be here. The excitement of the crowd and when he’s gonna be there and cheering. We’ll all be yelling USA, It’s gonna be awesome,” Hindelang said.

Trump spoke for about 40 minutes.

Before he got there, several speakers thanked the president-elect for coming to Baton Rouge in August to meet with victims after the devastating flood.

Trump also endorsed Mike Johnson for Congress in the fourth district.

He did not, however, endorse a candidate in the third district race between Scott Angelle and Clay Higgins.
