An overnight drive-by shooting in Lafayette sent two teenagers to the hospital that happened in the 100-block of Delahoussaye Drive.

The victims were 16 and 18 years-old. One resident, who chose to remain anonymous, said he heard the gunshots. “It was scary. It was really close to where I live.”

The resident heard four gunshots outside of his home around 12:30 on Thursday morning. When he looked out of his window he saw the victims lying on the ground.

Lafayette Police Spokesman, Corporal Paul Mouton, said an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old were both shot in the foot. “There were several people standing outside, males and females, when a vehicle believed to be a smaller silver car passed in front of an individual pointed a handgun out of that vehicle and began firing multiple shots.”

Mouton said the victims were treated and released from a local hospital and detectives are currently investigating if anyone in the group was a target. “We’ve had problems in that area before. Not necessarily on that particular street, but also several streets over we’ve had shootings as a matter of fact we had a shooting three streets over.”

The resident said this is not the first time he has heard gunshots outside of his house. “This is something that goes on quite often. Many nights we hear random gunfire and look out the window and there’s nothing outside and it’s just cars driving by shooting for no reason.”

Mouton said the shooting is still under investigation and police are still searching for a suspect. The vehicle is described as a small sliver 4-door car.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the identity of the suspect is encouraged to call Lafayette Police or call Crimestoppers at 232-TIPS.
