LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Pencils, paper and paper towels are all supplies needed for a successful school year, and United Way of Acadiana is asking for your help as they launch their ‘Suff the Bus’ school supply drive.

School supply lists typically consist of notebooks, binders, and looseleaf paper and when it comes to preparing your child for school those items can add up.

The United Way of Acadiana is currently accepting donations to help prepare students for the upcoming school year.

“We are needing all school supplies, the essentials. Crayons, pencils, notebooks just all of the items teachers need for children in school. We are taking new uniforms as well,” said Deidra Lewis of United Way.

Once collected, Volunteer Mobilization Manager Deidra Lewis said the supplies will be distributed to schools across the area.

“The school supplies are donated to all four parishes. We cover Lafayette, Vermilion, St. Martin and Acadia Parish.”

Lewis said the goal is to help every student succeed.

“Children may enter school without the necessary tools they may need for school, so we are just trying to lead to the road of success, so any school items donated will actually be distributed to those children.”

Residents can drop off supplies at the United Way of Acadiana’s office on East Pinhook Road or at the other drop off locations spread across the four parishes.

The last day to make donations is July 29th.
